Am i on my own when i get confused about what piece of rubbish goes in which bin in my kitchen?
My knowledge on this matter only extends so far, I have 2 bins and 1 heavy duty yellow sack.
Bin1 is general waste, Bin2 is recyclable waste, and the sack is for glass... Simple eh?
Not entirely, Because the recycling bin can only accept certain types of plastic. It can take plastic bottles and containers, but it cannot take plastic bags.
I also cannot put biodegradable waste like food in the recycling bin. This sort of waste is for the general rubbish bin.
But what do you do when you get a sort of plastic/card type bit of material?
Which bin do you put the metal stuff?
Is all metal stuff equal?
Could i for instance chuck a pint of liquid Mercury in the recycling bin? or is it for solid metals, such as coke cans and cat food tins only?
Where do i put a envelope with a see-thru window? its plastic AND paper so do i need to cut the window section out and commit this portion of waste to the black bin rather than the green one?
On the wrapper of most foodstuffs we now have a traffic light label for how healthy the thing is. Green being good, Amber means go on treat yourself occasionally, Red means, eat this and die you fat, obese munter!
We should have a little logo or something that says whether a piece of wrapper is recyclable or not.
Is this not a great idea?
I think I'm going to write to the Prime Minister about this, think of how much time we would all save!
Try reading the leaflet on the back of the bin calendar that tells you what goes in which bin :-) xx
